BEACH DIVES
All guides are Experienced, Insured, and active NAUI Instructors
or Dive Masters
Cost: $30 pp (does not include gear). Rental gear is
available.
Dive to a shipwreck without taking all day. We offer
beach dives 6 days a week to shallow dives located just off the beach
in Kill
Devil Hills and Nags Head. Dives typically take just 2 hours from the time
you meet us until you get your gear stowed. These
shallow dives are no
more than 30 feet in depth. This makes it perfect for rusty divers, newly
certified
divers, or those who just don't want to spend
all day on a boat. All beach
dives are guided by an instructor who explains about the history of the wreck,
what you need to know about
beach dives and wreck diving and leads you to the
wreck and back when we're done.
Wrecks we
beach dive are:
- HURON - a 541 ton federal gunship steamer with sail. Went down with
98 crewmen on November 24, 1877, 150 yards offshore @20 feet of water.
- CARL GERHARD - The Triangle Wrecks - a freighter carrying
plasterboard. Lost in September 1927. Ran into the Kyzickes and
broke in two. Mile post 7, 2nd street parking area, Kill Devil
Hills, @200 yards offshore @20 feet of water. This is our most
popular dive.
- KYZICKES - The Triangle Wrecks - a tanker carrying oil. Cut in two
when it was rammed by the Carl Gerhard. 4 crewman lost. Milepost
7, 2nd street, Kill Devil Hills @20 feet of water.
- TUG Explorer
- WINKS WRECK
- ORIENTAL
- Kayak Dive only.
- OUR SECRET SPOT
OF THE DAY - New wrecks
become uncovered every year.
We never know what we will find.
Beach dives, while shallower than boat dives are more physically
demanding.
All beach dives require swimming on the surface, through the
surf and out @100 yards.
You need to feel comfortable in the ocean, be in good physical shape and be a
good swimmer.
