 KAYAK LESSONS

The Outdoors Outfitters kayaking department focuses on developing sea kayakers with safe paddling skills, basic seamanship, knowledge and respect of the their environment. Our sea kayaking classes are designed for those interested in learning sea kayaking basics or improving their skill level, as well as for those who intend to be responsible for others on the water. Our instructors are sensitive to the challenges of learning and we maintain small group sizes in all of our courses to ensure that you will receive individualized and personalized instruction.

SOCIAL HOUR:  $10 - Bring your own boat or rent one for $5.00 - 2 person minimum
8:00am - 9:30am or 6:00pm - 7:30pm (weather and season allowing) Call for reservations.

Join a guide for 1 1/2 of paddling, advice, instruction, exercise, fun and relaxation.  This is your chance to try different boats, learn some new skills, meet new friends or get some fresh air.

KAYAKING INSTRUCTION:  $25 per hour - Boat and paddle gear rental $5 per hour.

Your instructor will cover what ever skills you are looking to learn or improve.  Skills can include:  parts of the boat, paddles and kayak gear, kayak entries and exits, paddling strokes, bracing techniques, wet exits, outfitting, use of the rudder, surf skills, weather, reading charts, navigation, tides, other as requrested.

SEA KAYAKING SKILLS I: Sea Kayaking Basics    

$110 - Includes boat and paddle gear

9:00 am to 12:00 pm - Call to schedule class dates.
This course gives you a foundation to start kayaking safely.  We begin with an orientation to kayaks, gear and the basics of paddling strokes. We then teach paddling strokes, bracing techniques, learning wet-exits, and re-entry (recovery) techniques.  Our day concludes with an introduction to reading: tide logs, charts and weather.  Successful completion of this class enables a kayaker to confidently use decked sea kayaks; deck kayaks.

**Upon completion, receive 50% off your next rental of a decked boat (up to $50 max.) or $50 off the purchase of a new or used sea kayaks.

SEA KAYAKING SKILLS II:  Advanced Sea Kayaking   

$110 - Includes boat and paddle gear

9:00am to 3:00pm - Call to schedule class dates.

Our advanced class focuses on bracing your kayak, edging, navigation, winds and tides and surf entries and exits.  We will help you fine tune your recovery skills so you feel more confident in more adverse conditions .  We also go over outfitting and use of the rudder.  By the end of this class you will feel much more in control of your boat in wind and waves and ready for your first kayak camping expedition.  Pre:  Skills 1 or the equiv.

BOY SCOUT KAYAKING PATCH:

$65 - Includes boat and paddle gear
This 4-hour class provides Boy Scouts with the instruction necessary to gain their Kayaking BSA Patch.  We begin with an orientation to gear and kayaks, then the basic strokes and rescue techniques for safe BSA kayaking.  Once you successfully complete this class a boy scout will be able to apply for his Kayaking BSA Patch.  All students must be an active Boy Scout and have successfully completed their BSA swimmers test.
